Business Process Workflow

Business Process Workflow is defined as the set of business rules and pre-requisites which are used in the decision-making process. The tasks in a process can include forms to be completed, approvals to be provided, assignment of work, triggering of another system, data retrieval, sending emails and alerts, etc. At each decision-making intersection, we combine the business rules and predefined outputs to build a Workflow Engine which feeds the automation process.
Business Rules
A Workflow Engine (sometimes called a "business rules engine") is an application that serves as the set of directions within a task automation solution. These decisions usually involve deciding how a task should be accomplished, who should do it, how to know when it's successfully completed, and what needs to be done next.
For instance, you might have a task that's part of the process for onboarding new accounts. The task is to make sure a new account is properly entered into the ERP system.
How should the task be accomplished? By selecting the attaching appropriate documentation from emails for the new hire.
Who should do it? The Account Manager
How will we know the task is completed? The account has a series of documents attached
What needs to be done next? All new accounts will need to be reviewed by the Director of Customer Success to ensure accuracy
This task could be automated in several ways:
As the new account is entered into the system, an automated task attaches all the appropriate documents from the email inbox in the background
The task could be automatically assigned to the proper Account Manager based on the new account's location
A new task could automatically be assigned to the Director upon submission
If the documents are not complete or missing information, the automated task could automatically send the account back to the Account Manager for adjustment
